A couple of days ago we reported that according to an AT&T rep on the forums, she confirmed that the carrier would be rolling out the Windows Phone 8.1 update this week. Well the good news is that if you were looking forward to the update is that yes, the rep was right on the money (in case you were a bit skeptical, we know we were), and AT&T is indeed rolling out the update this week.
However the bad news is that the update is only for the Nokia Lumia 1520, at least for now, so if you’re using a different handset, you’re out of luck temporarily. It should also be pointed out that the update will not work if you’re using the Developer Preview of Windows Phone 8.1, so if you are, you might want to roll it back to Windows Phone 8 in order to get the update working on your handset.
According to the AT&T announcement, “The Windows Phone 8.1 update also takes full advantage of the Lumia 1520’s quad-core processor, large, bright 6-inch HD 1080p display, and Nokia Rich Recording suite – four digital microphones and 140 dB recording range provide unparalleled stereo sound for video captured by the Lumia 1520.”
The update is also expected to bring features like the Word Flow keyboard and of course how could we forget, Cortana! The update weighs about 250MB in size so if you have yet to receive the notification informing you about the update, head on over to your phone’s settings, tap the “Phone Update” button and you should see it.
