A new report on Monday by the New York Post has more or less confirmed that, with the publication claiming that Apple could soon be ditching TBWA\Media Labs in favor of a new agency, and could even be turning to Beats Electronics’ Jimmy Iovine to help reinvigorate the company’s marketing operations.
This was one of the reasons many had speculated as to why Apple might be interested in acquiring Beats. After all it wasn’t as if Apple needed a headphones company, and they already had a music service of their own in the form of iTunes Radio, so some had speculated that they wanted both Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine for their marketing skills as well as industry connections.
According to an unnamed ad executive, “Apple bought Beats for a lot of reasons. They think they’re marketing geniuses. It is safe to assume Beats would be part of an assessment of all [Apple] partners.”
Of course it remains to be seen how much of this is true, but according to a recent survey, Apple’s in-house ads did not make as big an impact compared to those done by TBWA\Media Labs, so hopefully Jimmy Iovine will be able to turn things around for them, if they decide to branch out on their own.
