It seems that before we roll into the year 2021, London would have its 5G network up and running alongside the University of Surrey. Right now, the University of Surrey happens to be working on a 5G Innovation Center. 5G is rightly a developing, conceptual network standard, and so far there has been no exact definition of its data transfer speeds as well as working frequencies, but it looks set to hit speeds that at this point in time do not make sense for a mobile device – such as 10Gbps, which is many times faster than current 4G networks.
Japan, too, is said to launch their 5G mobile service by the time 2020 arrives, and NTT DoCoMo has already begun to test 5G technology in the Land of the Rising Sun. Who do you think will be the winner in this mobile arms race?
