That being said, Microsoft has recently released their latest earnings for the fourth quarter fiscal year 2014 and based on the numbers they provided in the report, it seems that Microsoft had managed to ship 1.1 million Xbox consoles in Q4 FY 2014. We should note that this is a combination of both the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One consoles, and since Microsoft did not break down the numbers, we can’t be sure as to the exact figures of each console.
However the upside is that Microsoft managed to sell 10% more units than this quarter compared to the same period last year. Last we heard, Microsoft had announced that they had shipped 5 million Xbox One consoles to retailers, but as we all know, shipping figures do not necessarily translate into sales figures. This is compared to Sony who has managed to sell over 7 million PlayStation 4 consoles to date.
Perhaps in time and with the release of newer titles that gamers will soon start to gravitate towards the Xbox One, but as it stands, it looks like Sony is clearly in the lead as far as next-gen consoles are concerned.
