Windows Phone’s US Market Share Experiences Marginal Growth

Every month or a couple of months, we hear reports about how well or how badly a particular smartphone operating system is doing. Considering that with new releases taking place every now and then, it’s basically another excuse for consumers to purchase a new device, which could then help a particular platform grow or shrink.

That being said the latest report from comScore has revealed that as far as smartphone platforms are concerned, both Android and Windows Phone have experienced slight growth in the US. Android reportedly grew by 0.8%, while Windows Phone grew by a more modest 0.1%. This means that in terms of market share, Android commands 52.5% of the market while Windows Phone holds 3.3%

As for iOS, it seems that the platform did not really grow. In fact it shrunk ever so slightly by 0.2%, putting them at 41.4%. While Google’s Android platform is clearly the winner here, in terms of smartphone manufacturers, Apple is clearly leading the way. Samsung commands about 27.7%, while LG, Motorola, and HTC hold anywhere between 5-6% of the market.

comScore also found that in terms of apps, Facebook, YouTube, Google Play, Google Search, Pandora, Gmail, Google Maps, and Instagram are some of the top used apps, which as you can tell is mostly Google-owned products/services.
