Wearable World Invents: “The Connected Traveler” 6-7 June San Francisco

As you might recall, it was way back in 2013 that British Airways announced their own hackathon that would be taking place in the sky. Well it looks like American Airlines does not want them to steal all the fun and have recently announced their own hackathon. This hackathon will be taking place American Airlines’ new Airbus A321 Transcontinental flight.

The flight will feature three different classes of service, individual AC power outlets, and USB jacks that will be available at every seat throughout the aircraft. Attendees of the hackathon will also be given access to Gogo’s upgraded ATG-4 WiFi service, and will also be shown the next-generation of wearable technology.

The hackathon will be kicking off on the 6th of June in San Francisco, California, and the teams that will be attending will have 30 days to develop a prototype (after pitching it) to be used on American Airlines’ systems on the flight from San Francisco to New York City. Wearable World has also announced the addition of new partners that includes IBM, Deloitte, Nod Labs, and Plantronics.

According to Wearable World’s and Glazed Conference’s  co-founder and CTO, Kyle Ellicot, “With the support of MasterCard for commerce solutions, the inflight connectivity experience of Gogo and the hardware capabilities of top companies like Avegant and Pebble, this event is poised to define the next generation of wearable travelers.” For those who manage to win the competition, you will be given a spot in the Wearable World Labs program incubator space in San Francisco, as well being able to partner up with American Airlines to make your product a reality.

According to Phillip Easter, Director Mobile Apps at American Airlines said. “By taking delivery of nearly two aircraft per week, equipping our planes with Wi-Fi, and participating in innovative events, such as the Wearable World Hackathon, we are setting the industry standard and laying down an innovative foundation for the new American”
