The KitKat update has been rolled out for a handful of devices on different carriers this week and today Verizon joins that list with a couple of Samsung devices. Galaxy S3 and Galaxy S4 mini on Big Red finally receive Android 4.4.2. The latter also received KitKat on Sprint today. The update not only brings everything we have come to expect from KitKat but also some bloatware and Samsung’s Knox 2.0 security suite.
Carrying build number KOT49H.I435VRUBND5 the update is now rolling out to both devices over the air. The changes aren’t going to be that different for both devices. Apart from subtle user interface tweaks, users can will get a revamped lock screen experience with a camera shortcut and music controls.
On the bloatware front the Verizon Cloud and Emergency Alerts application comes bundled with the update. Enhanced security option includes addition of permission to read/write to “My Places” location settings. Knox 2.0 for Enterprise Support is also included in this update.
The update also includes a handful of bug fixes, performance and stability improvements. Its rolling out now for both Galaxy S3 and Galaxy S4 mini but may take some time before it goes live across all regions. A little patience will certainly go a long way.
