Well it turns out that due to the additional workload that Ubisoft would have to do, they decided to abandon the idea of female assassins. This is according to Ubisoft’s creative director, Alex Amancio who sat down for an interview with the folks at Polygon. According to Amancio, they had initially planned for female assassins, but eventually found out that there was just too much work in order to make it happen.
Amancio stated, “It’s double the animations, it’s double the voices, all that stuff and double the visual assets. Especially because we have customizable assassins. It was really a lot of extra production work.” This was echoed by level designer, Bruno St. Andre in a separate interview, where he stated that this would involve creating 8,000 new animations.
However we should note that Ubisoft has created a female assassin before in Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation, so we guess it’s not that they’re against the idea, it’s just more work than they had anticipated. Perhaps Ubisoft will create more female assassin characters in the future, but for now it looks like they’ll be a no-show. What do you guys think? Does it seem unfair or does it not bother you?
