Soon after the Samsung Galaxy S5 was unveiled back in February we started hearing rumors about an “Active” variant of the latest flagship. Sure enough, the Galaxy S5 Active was soon officially launched. Under that particular branding it is offered by AT&T in the U.S. Sprint today announced that its getting that variant as well, though it will be called the Samsung Galaxy S5 Sport. The spotlight is not only on this variant’s rugged build, but also on its health and fitness related features which are aided by Sprint’s new app that provides health information.
The Galaxy S5’s textured body makes it easier to hold and reduces the chances of it slipping out of the user’s hands. Three physical keys make the smartphone easier to operate when the user is out and about. IP67 water and dust resistant certification is on hand as well to ensure that it stands up to the elements.
Available in Electric Blue and Cherry Red colors the Samsung Galaxy S5 Sport will come with several apps pre-loaded, which include Activity Zone, S Health and Sprint Fit Live. Sprint’s app provides access to fitness and activity apps apart from delivering relevant health information. Activity Zone brings a barometer, compass, stop watch and flashlight in one single screen.
Sprint says that the Galaxy S5 Sport serves as “the launch pad” for Sprint Fit Live. With it, 12 months of free MapMyFitness MVP is being offered, which gives users access to premium content like audio coaching, live tracking, training plans and more.
The Galaxy S5 Sport costs $0 down (plus tax) on Sprint Easy Pay for “well-qualified buyers” only, with 24 equal monthly payments of $27.09. It will be released on July 25th. Interested customers can pre-register here.
