This rumor follows a previous rumor from a couple of weeks ago that Sony could be looking to discontinue the Sony A99 camera as well, one of the higher-end offerings from Sony. Assuming both rumors are true, Sony is expected to discontinue both the A99 and the A58 later this summer, and even worse news is that it does not seem like there will be any replacements or successors for the A58.
Usually camera companies tend to discontinue their products because they are planning on releasing a successor, meaning that the older model is no longer needed as they would prefer if customers bought the newer model instead. However with no potential successors for the Sony A58, we have to wonder what Sony has planned for its entry-level DSLR lineup.
Word has it that the A99 could be replaced by a certain A99II that could be announced at/before Photokina 2014 which will be kicking off on the 16th of September later this year, so do check back with us then to see if there are any additional details that can be had.
