Does this mean that Samsung plans to make it on their own and not rely on the popularity and ecosystem of the Android platform? Perhaps, perhaps not, but according to a recent report from CNET, they claim that Samsung could very well debut a smartwatch powered by Android Wear at the upcoming Google I/O 2014 conference that will be kicking off next week.
Assuming the rumors are true, this could be Samsung’s very first Android Wear device. The device in question is said to be a smartwatch, so if you were hoping for something like a Google Glass rival, sorry to disappoint. Naturally Samsung has since declined to comment on their rumored Android Wear device, so we guess we’ll just have to wait until next week to see what’s in store for us.
CNET’s sources also goes on to inform them that Samsung has been working on this device for a while and that there are two versions that they have created. One will be powered by Qualcomm’s chipset, and the other is powered by Samsung’s own Exynos lineup for chipsets, but it is unclear which version Samsung will show off next week. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but check back with us at a later date for the details.
