Unfortunately it looks like that could be happening because a judge in the UK has ruled against Nintendo, according to a report from Bloomberg. There were three patents Philips claims Nintendo have infringed upon, but we guess the silver lining here is that according to the UK High Court Judge Colin Birss, the third patent was not violated.
Naturally Nintendo plans to appeal the ruling, but for now it is unclear as to what could happen. Like we said previously, Philips was seeking an injunction, although that filing was for the US and not the UK, so there is a good chance that Nintendo might just have to end up paying Philips for damages and still be allowed to continue selling their console in the UK.
According to a statement released by the company, “Nintendo is committed to ensuring that this judgment does not affect continued sales of its highly acclaimed line of video game hardware, software, and accessories and will actively pursue all such legitimate steps as are necessary to avoid any interruptions to its business.”
