Nikon Allocated $17.6 Million For D600 Repairs And Warranty

A couple of years ago, Nikon announced the D600 camera. Unfortunately the camera was launched with one glaring issue: oil spots on the sensor. What does this mean? Well it means that photos you take with oil spots on the sensor will, well, result in marred photos which are definitely not what a photographer wants when they are shooting photos or videos.

Well it seems that in a bid to help restore confidence in the Nikon brand, Nikon has announced that they have allocated $17.6 million to help cover the costs of warranty repairs and replacement units for Nikon D600 cameras that have been affected by the issue. The company claims to be taking this issue very seriously, which is good news for photographers.

So far what Nikon has done to help customers is to offer free cleaning and shutter replacements for photographers affected by it, and in some cases have even offered to replace D600 units with its successor, the Nikon D610 that supposedly have managed to deal with the oil spot problem. Might it be too little too late? We doubt it, since Nikon is a pretty well-known and reputable brand.
