We should point out that Hong is not saying that there isn’t a new Nexus handset, it’s just that it doesn’t seem like it will be made by LG. Of course it is entirely possible that Hong might not be telling the truth in order to maintain some level of secrecy or surprise, but his statement does seem to be pretty solid. Assuming that is true, it’s pretty much up in the air at the moment as to who might be responsible for the Nexus 6.
We have also heard rumors that the Nexus lineup could be cancelled in favor of the rumored Android Silver program. For those wondering what the Android Silver program is, well at the moment it is more of a rumor, but the idea is to create and sell a handful of high-end devices that conforms to Google’s specifications. Essentially it would be like a Nexus handset, but imagine a bunch of Nexus handsets to choose from as opposed to just one.
In any case we’ll definitely be keeping our eyes peeled for more information, but with Google I/O taking place next week, perhaps we will hear more about Google’s Android Silver program then, so check back with us then for the details.
