Nintendo made a couple of very interesting announcements during its E3 2014 Digital Event, including but not limited to the unveiling of Mario Maker, which will allow players to create their own custom levels. It also confirmed that a new Legend of Zelda Wii U game is being developed. While it didn’t go into too much detail, Nintendo did confirm that this title will be making its way to the Wii U in 2015.
When I say Nintendo didn’t go into much detail, I really mean that it kept almost everything essential under wraps. For starters, we don’t know what the game’s formal title is going to be and when exactly its going to be available next year.
However Nintendo did confirm that this is the first game in the Legend of Zelda series that is being built from the ground up for the Wii U. Instead of sticking to the traditional linear path the game will instead be set in a massive open world.
A short trailer was also released which shows an expansive and rather peaceful world with Link riding on his horse, when suddenly a big enemy emerges and starts shooting lasers at him. Link’s iconic bow and arrow make an appearance before the trailer ends by fading to a white screen.
We’ll be sure to follow up on additional details about this title, but for now the only thing that Zelda fans can really do is wait for it to drop.
