Earlier this week Apple unveiled OS X 10.10 Yosemite. Its one of the biggest updates for its desktop platform. There are a ton of new features as well as a redesigned user interface. Most of us can’t wait to get our hands on it but we’ll have to wait until the fall for its release. However it would be nice to know if your Mac is compatible. A list of Macs compatible with OS X Yosemite is available after the break.
For now Yosemite is only available to registered developers. Apple did say that it will offer a public beta over the summer. Basically it would allow people who aren’t developers to download OS X Yosemite and try it out. The final public release, as previously mentioned, is slated for fall 2014.
The list of Macs compatible with OS X Yosemite include all models that are compatible with OS X Mavericks, the existing iteration. So if you have a Mac that runs Mavericks you’ll be fine.
Supported models include mid-2007 iMac or later, late 2008 aluminum and early 2009 or later 13-inch MacBook, early 2008 or later Mac Pro, early 2009 or later Mac mini and the early 2009 Xserve. Late 2008 or later Macbook Air models are supported as well.
As far as the MacBook Pro is concerned, the 13-inch mid 2009 or later, 15-inch mid/late 2007 or later and 17-inch late 2007 or later models are compatible.
