Well according to the folks to 9to5Mac, perhaps additional sensors could make their way into the iPhone 6. This is according to new found APIs within Apple’s upcoming mobile operating system, iOS 8. According to the code discovered, there have been references made to altitude, suggesting that the iPhone 6 could come with barometers installed in them.
For those wondering, barometers are used to measure altitude. They are typically employed by mountain climbers, bike riders, along with enthusiasts who simply wants to know as much about the environment around them as possible. As it stands iOS devices can track altitude via GPS and Motion chips, but with a dedicated barometer sensor, the readings and data collected would be far more accurate.
It has been speculated that the barometer sensor could be part of Apple’s efforts to update its Compass application. In any case we guess we’ll just have to wait and see what Apple does with the sensor, if true, but what else could Apple be using it for? Fitness-related apps, perhaps?
