Well perhaps it could be due to society that forces women to take certain types of jobs and conform to a particular image, but casting all stereotype aside, it looks like Google has decided to take action and do something about the lack of female programmers in the work place. The company has recently announced a new program called Made With Code.
What the program aims to do is to get more women interested in the field of computer science. This will be done via coding projects and partnerships with youth organizations, like the Girl Scouts, along with Google investing a cool $50 million into the program. According to Google, some of the programs they plan to launch includes a coding project that teaches women how to design bracelets for 3D printing, how to create animated GIFs, and how to use software to create music.
According to the CEO of YouTube, Susan Wojcicki, “Nowadays, coding isn’t just a skill useful for working at a tech company; engineering isn’t just for engineers. Interior design. Medicine. Architecture. Music. No matter what a girl dreams of doing, learning how to code will help her get there. Their future — our future — is made with code. Let’s do what we can to make sure that future is as bright as possible.”
