It was rumored late last year that LG is going to use its Odin chipset in mobile devices this year. So far it hasn’t released such a device but we heard back in April that the processor is about to enter mass production soon. The company may not have wanted to take a chance on its new processor with this year’s flagship smartphone, the G3, so it may have saved it for the G Flex’s successor. Rumor has it that the LG G Flex 2 is going to be powered by the company’s own 8-core Odin system-on-chip.
A tweet from @UpLeaks claims that LG-F490L smartphone will have the honor of being the first to be powered by LG’s own chip. Now this account doesn’t quite have the track record of the infamous @evleaks, so its best to take this with a grain of salt.
The refreshed and more powerful variant of G3 that LG is expected to release next month is believed to carry model number LG-F460L. Besides, its supposed to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 805, so its unlikely that it’ll come bearing Odin.
LG has already confirmed that it is going to release the G Flex 2 in the second half of this year. Its expected to be launched alongside the LG Vu 4, a phablet that’s particularly popular in South Korea. Both of them could be powered by Odin if these rumors are true.
As always there’s no confirmation from LG about its future plans. We’ll really have to wait and see if Odin is going to make its debut with the successor to LG’s self-healing smartphone.
