It looks like second time’s the charm, because with Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn, Square Enix appears to have a hit on their hands, which really can’t be said of its predecessor which pretty much led to A Realm Reborn in the first place. That being said, the game is currently available on the PC and the PS4, but what about Xbox gamers?
Where is the love for Xbox gamers? Will they be able to play the game in the future? Well the good news is that Square Enix is not completely closed off to that idea. According to Square Enix’s producer and director, Naoki Yoshida, he revealed to the folks at Pocket-lint that the company has been in talks with Microsoft about the possibility of bringing the game onto the Xbox One.
Yoshida states that they really want to do an Xbox One version of the game as he is a huge Xbox gamer himself. However Yoshida pointed out that due to Microsoft’s policy, which prevents gamers from playing with other gamers from different platforms, it could lead to a split in the community, something that he does not want to do.
“The thing is, A Realm Reborn is all about cross-platform compatibility. Anybody from any platform can play together. We don’t want to split our community into people who play on this platform or play on that one. So we’re currently in talks with Microsoft, trying to convince them that this is what needs to happen.” Yoshida did not state how far into the talks they were.
It is unclear if Microsoft will bend the rules for Square Enix, given that if they did, it would set a precedent which other developers might try to take advantage of, which in turn would “ruin” the exclusivity of the Xbox ecosystem. However we guess it’s still relatively good news to know that they are at the very least, discussing the possibility, but what do you guys think?
