Dual GamePad Wii U Games Not Happening Anytime Soon

The Nintendo Wii U, like most consoles, offer support for more than one controller, which makes sense since there are plenty of multiplayer games out there that will need the extra controller. However when it comes to the GamePad, there is only one that comes bundled with the Wii U. The GamePad, for those unfamiliar, acts as a secondary display, like how the 3DS console has two displays.

It can also be used to play Wii U games in another room should the TV be used for something else, but what about two GamePads? Is such a setup possible? Well the good news is that yes, it would. This is according to Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto when asked by IGN if games that used two GamePads would be possible.

Miyamoto replied in the affirmative, but notes that right now their efforts are concentrated towards getting gamers to purchase a Wii U console system, rather than a second GamePad. “Certainly as we’ve been working on Wii U, I think we’re at a point where we don’t feel it’s realistic to expect people to purchase two GamePads yet. We’re still trying to get as many people as possible to buy the system itself, and that’s where our focus is right now. For the time being, two GamePad gameplay is not within our objectives in the short-term.”

It should be noted that when the Wii U was unveiled back in 2012, there was mention of dual GamePad support, but until today we have yet to see any game that takes advantage of that, but what do you guys think? Would games that require dual GamePads be a bit too expensive for gamers?
