The update introduces Nuance voice recognition software to the apps, so what this means is that customers looking to place an order will be able to do so via their voice, much like you would if you were to order a pizza via the phone. According to Nuance, “The platform, in partnership with Nuance, will redefine technology convenience – and puts Domino’s at the forefront of an intuitive ordering method that is a true first within both traditional and e-commerce retail.”
It’s an interesting idea but we have to wonder, is this much more of a convenience? After all placing an order online or via the app is a way to ensure that the person on the other end of the phone won’t get your order wrong or mishear you. While voice recognition has come a long way since its inception, using features like Siri only serves to prove that there is still much that can be done to improve it.
However Nuance is hoping that with the addition of voice recognition, it will lead to increased convenience, which in turn could lead to an increase in sales. We’re not sure if that will happen but what do you guys think? Is voice recognition in a pizza ordering app a feature that you really need?
