Competition In Wearable Tech Arena Heats Up

[Computex 2014] Google Glass might be the de facto champion of the wearable tech world at the moment, but this does not mean that other hardware manufacturers are going to sit down and do nothing about the situation. Computex 2014 is a hotbed for such technology to be shown off, where ChipSip has picked up Computex’s Best Choice award when it comes to their pair of smart glasses which intend to make a dent in the Google Glass market.

Of course, ChipSip’s offering is not exactly the cheapest in the market to say the least, but at least it happens to be a whole lot more affordable than the Google Glass. We are looking at a $500 price tag for ChipSip’s offering, with their SiMEye (pronounced “see me”) Smart Glass kit.

ChipSip claims that the SiMEye is able to download Android apps straight from Google’s Play Store through the SiMEye user interface. This is a whole lot easier (theoretically speaking) compared to Google Glass users requiring an app to be downloaded over another Android device prior to it being transferred over to the eyewear. Not only that, SiMEye also boasts of the capability of shooting video in 1080p, which is four times the resolution of Google Glass, now how about that for progress? It remains to be seen whether the SiMEye will be able to capture a large segment of the market when it finally arrives on a large scale basis.
