Apple Working On Additional Language Support For Siri

Apple has been quietly working over the past few years and are making various improvements to Siri. However while Siri might be more adept at recognizing different words and might be slightly faster at processing them, this hardly matters if your native language isn’t supported, right? Now previously we knew that Apple was working on language support for Arabic, Norwegian, Dutch, Swedish, Finnish, and Danish.

Now according to new job listings posted by Apple, Apple could soon be adding support for at least three more languages: Russian, Brazilian Portuguese, and Thai. Combine that with the languages we mentioned earlier and we have basically 9 new languages that should be coming to Siri in the future. However Apple did note during WWDC and during their iOS 8 presentation that there would be new dictation languages users could look forward to.

As it stands, Apple lists the current languages that are supported by Siri, which includes: United States (English, Spanish); United Kingdom (English); Australia (English); France (French); Germany (German); Japan (Japanese); Canada (English, Canadian French); China (Mandarin); Hong Kong (Cantonese); Italy (Italian); Korea (Korean); Mexico (Spanish); Spain (Spanish); Switzerland (Italian, French, German); Taiwan (Mandarin).

No word on when Apple will be adding support for the languages we mentioned earlier, but some of them have been in the works since 2012 so here’s hoping that at least some of them will make its way into iOS 8’s release later this year.
