Blink announced the acquisition on their blog, although in the process they have also announced that they would be shutting their service down in the coming weeks, and removed from iOS and Android app stores respectively.
According to Blink, “We’re excited to announce that as of May 13, 2014 Blink is joining Yahoo! We built Blink because we believe everyone should be free to show the same honesty and spontaneity in their online conversations as they can in person. We look forward to the possibilities that will come from bringing the Blink vision to Yahoo.”
It is unclear what Yahoo is planning on doing with Blink, but presumably its messaging service is probably one of the reasons why they got acquired in the first place. This isn’t the first mobile acquisition we’ve seen from Yahoo. Earlier this year Yahoo acquired Aviate, an Android launcher. With this acquisition, it looks like Yahoo is really trying to make their mark in the mobile world.
