Windows 365 Could Be Cloud-Based Windows OS [Rumor]

Based on Microsoft’s Scroogled campaign from last year, we have to say that based on our observations, Microsoft isn’t a fan of Google or its Chromebooks. However that being said, it’s interesting that despite Microsoft not liking Chromebooks, that they could be developing an operating system that’s somewhat similar to Chrome OS. Now thanks to a leaked screenshot, it appears that the operating system in question could be called Windows 365.

For those unfamiliar with the rumors, word has it that Microsoft could be developing a cloud-based Windows operating system of their own. The system is said to require internet connectivity for it to work in full, although offline mode is still usable, albeit with some limited functionality. We had actually heard rumors about this alleged Windows Cloud OS back in April, so it looks like we might be able to put a name to it.

The platform is rumored to be free for download, although a subscription service might be required in order for certain features to be unlocked, much like how Microsoft has a subscription service to use its Office 365 productivity suites, and even Office for iPad that has a free mode where users can view documents, but will require a paid subscription in order to edit them.

There’s no telling when Microsoft will officially announce Windows 365, or how far along the platform is in development, so do take it with a grain of salt for now, but in the meantime what do you guys think? Is a cloud-based operating system something you might be interested in?
