“We’re now using wireless prototype controllers to conduct live playtests, with everyone from industry professionals to die-hard gamers to casual gamers. It’s generating a ton of useful feedback, and it means we’ll be able to make the controller a lot better. Of course, it’s also keeping us pretty busymaking all those improvements. Realistically, we’re now looking at a release window of 2015, not 2014.”
Hope did not mention if it was only the controller that would be delayed, or if it meant that all Steam Machines including the controllers would be pushed to 2015. However in another statement Hope makes, it seems that it could be applied to the Steam Machines as well. “Obviously we’re just as eager as you are to get a Steam Machine in your hands. But our number one priority is making sure that when you do, you’ll be getting the best gaming experience possible. We hope you’ll be patient with us while we get there.”
Back in 2013, Valve announced the Steam Machines and it was earlier this year during CES that Valve reveal the different hardware manufacturers that would be building the Steam Machines. Alienware is one of the companies involved in building Steam Machines, and it was expected that they would release their first Steam Machine in September, but we guess that’s moot now, although Alienware has yet to officially comment on this update by Valve.
