Samsung has several smartwatches in the market already. This includes the original Galaxy Gear, the Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo, and the Gear Fit. However if there is one disadvantage to these devices is that they require it to be paired with a smartphone in order to unlock some of its features and functionalities.
Well recently a report from the Wall Street Journal has “confirmed” that another Samsung smartwatch is on its way, and that this time round, the device in question is a standalone device and will pack its own SIM card. This means that it might not necessarily have to be paired with your phone for it to work.
No word on when Samsung plans on officially announcing the device, but the rumors are suggesting that it could be revealed as early as this summer, so that’s worth keeping an eye out for. In fact it was just last month that Samsung could have an Android Wear smartwatch that could be released in the coming months.
We’re not sure if that is the same device as the one the Wall Street Journal is reporting, or if it is another device entirely. Features of Samsung’s alleged standalone watch also remain unknown, but presumably it will share the features of the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo, like a heart rate monitor, pedometer, and so on. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but do check back with us at a later date for the details. In the meantime how do you guys feel about a standalone smartwatch?
