Back in February Sprint started rolling out the Wi-Fi calling feature. At the time the feature was only compatible with a handful of devices. Since then the carrier has rolled out software updates for a number of other devices, enabling Wi-Fi calling for them. The latest to receive such an update is Sprint HTC One Max. A software update for the device has been rolled out today and not only does it bring Wi-Fi calling, it also comes with Sense 6.0.
Wi-Fi calling can be a life saver for users who don’t have unlimited minutes on their cell plan or are simply in an area where reception isn’t that good. The feature lets them make calls and send text messages over Wi-Fi, so it doesn’t really matter how good or bad cell reception in that particular area is.
This Sprint HTC One Max update bumps up the software version to 3.02.651.5. Apart from the aforementioned features this update doesn’t bring anything else, certainly not a new version of the core Android OS.
The carrier is rolling out this software update in stages. What this means is that it may take a while for the update to go live in all regions. Users can try manually pulling the update through the Settings application, though they might not be able to get their hands on it until it goes live.
