Samsung Confims Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 KitKat Update Won’t Be Released

The company has finally given an answer to a question that many Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 owners have been asking for a few months now, but its answer isn’t something they would be happy to hear. There was much debate about the possibility of an Android 4.4 KitKat update for this particular variant and while it has seemed imminent in the past, Samsung has officially confirmed today that it is not going to release the Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 KitKat update.

Just yesterday we picked up on a leaked internal list which revealed that the update for this smartphone had been cancelled as the development team had been facing issues. It did cause some confusion as the Galaxy S3 LTE has already received the KitKat update, but it boils down to the fact that the LTE variant has more RAM which enables it to run KitKat.

In a statement provided to Sammobile, the company says that since Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 has only 1GB RAM it is not sufficient enough to effectively support the KitKat platform upgrade. Same goes for the Galaxy S3 3G variant which won’t receive the update as well. Before you argue that KitKat is able to run on devices with 512MB RAM, that doesn’t apply to OEM modified software, and we all know how much Samsung likes to tweak the OS.

This finally puts an end to all speculation regarding Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 KitKat update. No point in crossing your fingers as Samsung won’t be releasing it. Users will have to make do with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.
