We have known for the past few weeks that Apple has been internally testing a new build of OS X Mavericks. OS X 10.9.3 wasn’t supposed to be a major update in any way though it was expected to bring a few crucial bug fixes and some improvements. That is exactly what it does. Apple today rolled out OS X 10.9.3 for all supported Mac machines. The update brings improved support for 4K displays and more.
As always Apple urges all users with compatible hardware to upgrade, recommending the update because it improves stability, compatibility and security of the Mavericks operating system. The improved 4K display support is exclusive to the late 2013 Mac Pro and late 2013 MacBook Pro with 15-inch Retina display.
Other improvements in the update include better reliability of VPN connections using IPSec as well as the ability to sync contacts and calendars between a Mac and an iOS device using a USB connection. Safari 7.0.3 is also included in OS X 10.9.3.
While this may only be an incremental update, rest assured Apple is working on a major OS X update. In the first week of June the company is expected to unveil OS X 10.10 at WWDC 2014. It is believed to be one of the biggest updates for the platform that might bring radical changes like iOS 7 did for the company’s mobile platform.
