Most of us agree that Christopher Nolan’s Batman set the bar so high that it would be very hard to top that. When it was announced that Ben Affleck would play the new Batman in the as yet untitled Man of Steel sequel there was naturally a lot of backlash on the internet. Today the director Zack Snyder gave us the very first look at the new Batmobile and Batman. He posted a shot of Affleck as Batman standing beside his ride on Twitter.
The full reveal comes after Snyder posted a teaser image of the new Batmobile yesterday. Most of the Batmobile in the teaser was covered in a tarp though Snyder did say that he’ll post the full image today. He has certainly followed through on that promise.
From the looks of it the new Batmobile appears to be a cross between the Tumblr from Nolan’s Dark Knight and Tim Burton’s Batman, which featured a swooping long-nosed car. The new car seems to have drawn inspiration from both.
As far as the new Batman is concerned it looks like Snyder has drawn inspiration from Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns, released in 1986, in which an aged Bruce Wayne was shown approaching the end of his career. Rumor has it that Affleck will play an older Batman in the upcoming film as well, so it would make sense why Snyder would draw inspiration from the 1986 classic.
