Logitech’s case+ Is A Modular iPhone Case

Google’s Project Ara is all about modularity. It encourages third party developers to create modules to use with the device, thus expanding the device’s capabilities and ultimately allowing the user to customize it to their liking. Unfortunately it does not seem like the iPhone will be getting a similar treatment anytime soon, but in the meantime perhaps Logitech’s case+ system might be of interest to some.

The case+ is an iPhone case that offers up some degree of modularity. Perhaps not in the same way that Project Ara does, but perhaps some might have a use for it. The base itself is an exposed metal plate in which users can attach various modules to it. For example as you can see in the image above, one of the possible modules is an external battery pack called +energy that snaps onto the case and connects to the Lightning port.

There is also a +tilt attachment which is like a mini version of the iPad’s Smart Cover. It attaches to the back of the case and can act as a kickstand for watching videos and the grooves allows users to wrap their headphone cables around it. Next is the +drive module which is essentially a suction cup that can be attached to a windshield of a car, allowing you to see your phone at a more comfortable angle and use it for navigational purposes.

Last but not least there’s the +wallet that allows users to put in items like cards, keys, and cash in the back of the iPhone. According to Logitech, the magnets will not deactivate any of the cards thanks to their Magnashield technology. It’s an interesting idea and if this sounds like something you might be interested in, the entire collection will go on sale later this month for $200.
