Apple’s iPhone 6 is reportedly gearing up for production, what with components already being delivered and whatnot, so we guess we just have to wait and see what Apple has in store for us when they officially unveil the device. Based on what we know so far, the iPhone 6 is expected to be a huge jump in size.
The phone is rumored to feature a 4.7-inch display, a jump over the 4-inch display found on the iPhone 5/5s, and also a pretty big jump from those still using older devices like the iPhone 4S which has a 3.5-inch display. The folks at MacRumors have decided to see for themselves as to how big such a phone might be and have 3D printed a rough mockup of the phone based on alleged design drawings we saw a while back.
They also managed to get their hands on one of the alleged cases for the iPhone 6 to make their comparison as well. Now as you can see in the image above, the iPhone 6 is noticeably larger than its predecessor, the iPhone 5. As we suspect, one-handed use of the 4.7-inch device isn’t exactly the most comfortable, which might explain why Apple chose to reposition the sleep/wake button.
By placing the sleep/wake button to the side, users can reach for it easily, as opposed to if it were kept at the top right hand corner like it used to, which means that users will have to stretch their fingers awkwardly to try to get to it. MacRumors has also tried to reimagine what iOS would look like on a larger device and based on their mockup, it seems possible that with the larger display, Apple could add another row of icons, thus displaying a 4×6 layout.
Of course there’s no way of telling if any of these leaked schematics and cases are based on the actual device. If they are, someone really needs to plug these leaks at Apple, but until we actually see the device for ourselves, we suggest you view these with some skepticism for now, but hypothetically speaking, what do you guys think?
