The jailbreak community hasn’t had much luck ever since Apple patched the exploit evasi0n7 used with iOS 7.1. Back in the days when A4-powered iOS devices were all the rage it was pretty easy to jailbreak them since a bootrom exploit had been discovered. Since then developers have had to make do with software based exploits which Apple easily patches. Work has been going on to find a new exploit and now two well known developers have teased an iOS 7.1.1 untethered jailbreak for iPhone.
First up is Stefan Esser a.k.a @i0n1c. Those who known important figures in the jailbreak developers community will certainly be aware of Esser. He played a vital part in the iOS 4.3 jailbreak but hasn’t done much since except take part in debates and comment on happenings in the community. Yesterday he tweeted a photo of an iPhone 5c jailbroken on iOS 7.1.1. Though its highly unlikely that he’ll release something in the near future.
Next up is @winocm, yet another popular figure in the community. A video has been posted on YouTube showing off an iOS 7.1.1 untethered jailbreak on iPhone 4. Granted that due to the aforementioned bootrom exploit this isn’t an impressive as @i0n1c’s proof, but @winocm says that this exploit will work on more recent devices as well “if you put in the effort.”
The evad3rs development team, who were behind the iOS 7.0 untethered jailbreak, is also working on iOS 7.1.1 jailbreak. Its unlikely that a release might take place soon since Apple is close to announcing iOS 8.0. Jailbreak hopefuls might have to wait for a long time before they’re able to open up a world of customization on their devices.
