Intel-Powered Surface Could Be Announced On May 20 [Rumor]

According to recent reports, Microsoft is expected to announce the Surface mini tablet at an event they will be hosting on the 20th of May. That seems to be the general consensus and according to the rumored specs of the Surface mini, we can look forward to a 7.5-inch device that will be powered by an ARM chipset. While ARM-based chipsets are more than welcome in our smartphones and tablets, they’re not as welcome when it comes to Windows.

This is because when people use Windows, they’re already expecting software to be available and compatible, much like how you can expect to be able to download software like Skype, VLC, Photoshop, and etc. when you switch computers. This unfortunately does not apply to Windows RT, which is why we were curious as to why Microsoft has chosen to go with an ARM version for the Surface mini.

Well it turns out that maybe Microsoft has another Surface in the works, at least according to a report from Bloomberg which suggests that Microsoft could be unveiling an Intel-powered Surface tablet at their event as well. It is unclear as to whether this Intel-powered Surface will be a Surface mini tablet or maybe a refreshed version of their Surface Pro 2.

Heck, some have even speculated that it could be a brand new Surface tablet entirely that is not currently part of the lineup! In any case it does make more sense that Microsoft will give users to choose between ARM and Intel, just like what they did with the Surface and Surface Pro models, but either way take it with a grain of salt and check back with us on the 20th of May for the details.
