However if you were looking for more details, HTC’s Creative Director, Daniel Hundt, revealed some additional details of the design process in an exclusive interview with the folks at Stuff. According to Hundt, “Our approach at the beginning was to simply start with a chunk of metal and just ask ourselves what we could do with it.”
He also adds, “I like objects that have a design that’s not forced, that make you think that’s just what a phone or a chair is supposed to look like. It’s a natural result of the material, without technology being forced in just for technology’s sake.” Towards the end of the interview, he talks about the future of HTC’s products.
It seems that metal will continue being part of HTC’s design process, and that he’s hoping that future HTC products will feature more of the material. “The body of the M8 is 70% metal, but I’d like to get that closer to 100%” We can’t imagine what a 100% metal phone will look like (Apple’s iPhone still has some glass components at the back) but it will be interesting to see HTC give it a shot, but what say you?
