The Hipstamatic app has somewhat taken a backseat to apps such as Instagram, which they tried to compete with by launching Oggl back in 2013, and now it looks like Hipstamatic is set on taking on Vine with a new app called Cinamatic.
Cinamatic is essentially a videography app that will share some of Vine’s features, namely the ability to shoot videos in a square crop and upload them on its own social network for other viewers to check out. However Hipstamatic will also be competing with Instagram’s own Vine-like feature, Instagram Video, so it will be interesting to see which platform prevails.
Videos captured by Cinamatic can go up to 15 seconds in length and will record the same way as Vine and Instagram, which is by holding on the record button and letting go when you’re done. The app itself will be priced at $1.99 and will also come with a set of filters that users can apply to their videos. Additional filters can also be purchased as in-app purchases.
