Blizzard’s upcoming MOBA, Heroes of the Storm, is currently in alpha testing. We expect that beta testing should be launched in the near future, but as it stands it is unclear how one will qualify for it. Blizzard has been doling out beta access to their gamers somewhat randomly.
Some suspect that how many games you’ve played could entitle you to beta access, some speculate it could depend on your hardware, but if you were looking forward to Heroes of the Storm beta, it seems that you could actually buy your way into it.
This is according to an updated Battle.net launcher in which a Heroes Founder’s Pack was mentioned. Basically what this does is that it will unlock beta access for your Battle.net account and give you, the player, a Wolf mount made entirely from gold (not physical gold, mind you). Unfortunately when attempting to find out more about this feature, it led to an error 404 page, suggesting that Blizzard has yet to make it official.
This is actually not the first time Blizzard has considered allowing access to beta for a fee. They offered it in the World of Warcraft Annual Pass back in 2011. Basically this involved gamers committing themselves to a one year subscription to World of Warcraft. The reward was that they would be getting a copy of Diablo 3 for free (it had not been launched yet) and beta access to the Mists of Pandaria World of Warcraft expansion.
We’re sure that there are gamers out there who would gladly pay for beta access, but there are probably some who might view it as just another attempt by developers at a cash grab, but what say you? Would you be happy to pay a small fee to access the Heroes of the Storm beta, and get a (possibly) exclusive mount at the same time?
