Well, well, what do we have here? Is there any aspect of life where we do not make use of Google Maps at all? It really depends on how connected you are, and which part of the world you live in. As for those who love to receive assistance from Google Maps the next time you make your way through the wilderness, you might want to check out what Google Maps 8.1.0 has in store. The good people over at XDA Developers have already managed to get a look at the APK for Google Maps 8.1.0, where they claim there will be a pretty nifty terrain view option that is located in the side menu.
In this particular selection, one will also be able to check out 3D elevation details of the landscape alongside mountains and more, which would make it an infinitely useful tool where hikers, climbers and trail bikers are concerned. This does seem to be the major change in the upcoming Google Maps app, although we do hope that it will not be the only change.
The new version of Google Maps, of course, is not quite ready to hit the masses just yet, although you can always perform a sideloading procedure for the update if you have the intestinal fortitude to do so. [Image courtesy of MyLoupe/UIG via Getty Images]
