Samsung is known for releasing multiple variants of its flagship devices so it won’t surprise anyone when the Galaxy S5 mini finally hits the market. The company launched a similar variant of last year’s flagship as well. Already there have been many rumors about the Galaxy S5 mini but so far Samsung hasn’t revealed when it plans on releasing the device. The latest claims that this smartphone has a 4.5-inch display.
“Mini” variants don’t exactly match their high-end counterparts in specifications. The idea is to offer customers a similar design experience at a fraction of the cost. The folks at PhoneArena hear that its going to have a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED display with 720×1,280 pixel resolution, a far cry from the full HD 5.1-inch display found on the Galaxy S5.
Previous rumors suggest that under the hood there will be a quadcore Snapdragon 400 processor from Qualcomm coupled with 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage. The smartphone is also believed to have an 8 megapixel rear and 2 megapixel front camera. A 2,000mAh battery will supposedly provide juice for the entire package.
Samsung Galaxy S5 mini is also expected to be both water and dust resistant like its high-end sibling, presumably with the same IP67 certification. No word as yet on when Samsung plans to launch it, but it most certainly will be offered by carriers in the U.S. when it launches.
