Francesco’s Pizzeria Makes Pizza Deliveries Using Drones
They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but if you so happen to be the party that is being imitated, do you actually believe that? I suppose it is true to a certain extent – after all, why reinvent the wheel, right? Francesco’s Pizzeria that is located in Mumbai, India, must have been inspired by Amazon and their
Prime Air Program, which is why the company intends to deliver a piping hot pizza without having stuff like heavy traffic get in the way, literally. Francesco’s Pizzeria has taken the drone route, too, being the first outlet that delivers your pizza order via a drone.
According to Francesco’s Pizzeria chief executive, Mikhel Rajani, “All of us had read about [US online retailer] Amazon’s plans of using drones. We successfully carried out a test-delivery by sending a pizza to a customer located 1.5 km away from our outlet on May 11.”
The four-rotor drone that they used does not come cheap, retailing for approximately £1,100, although I am quite sure that the cost of it has been paid back many times over thanks to the amount of publicity that would have been generated since.
