Ford Mustang Goes To Space

Have car, will travel. I suppose that the all-new Mustang would agree to this particular statement, as this ride has managed to scale the Empire State Building, and now, it has been sent all the way to outer space. Not the real deal, of course, but rather, a scale model version of the new Mustang that was constructed by hobby car makers Revell that has traveled to space via a weather balloon, achieving an estimated height of 110,000 feet (or 33.5 kilometres above the surface of Earth).

It is said that the entire flight took around 74 minutes before the balloon decided to call it a day and burst, sending the model plummeting back to earth with the cameras functioning. The team that sent this replica scale model of the Ford Mustang then relied on a GPS tracker to figure out just where it landed.

This idea was mooted and it literally took off as part of Ford’s way of marking the legendary Mustang’s 50th anniversary. It was said, “We wanted to celebrate 50 years of Mustang and the impending arrival of the all-new 2015 Mustang by doing something really special. Mustang has always been about getting behind the wheel and hitting the open road, but we decided to take to the open sky.”
