We compared this to Blizzard’s Public Test Realms where they test out features for their games before it makes its way into the actual game itself. That being said, DICE has since officially announced the Community Test Environment and it looks like the features are more or less in line with what we had heard yesterday.
According to DICE, “The Community Test Environment (CTE) will provide passionate fans the chance to evolve Battlefield 4 with us and become a part of the development process. We’ll be able to test new ideas and solutions to current issues before we roll them out to all Battlefield players.”
DICE has also stated their intentions on which features that they will be working on, starting with Netcode. “Among the first things we will work on is the “Netcode,” which is what the player experiences with the game world including player-to-player interactions like damage registration. This involves tweaking to the “tickrate” servers and networking in general.”
The Community Test Environment will be limited to PC gamers who have a Battlefield 4 Premium account. For those who are interested in learning more, you can head on over to DICE’s blog for the details, on hop on over to the CTE page to sign up.
