Details About LG’s Android Silver Handset Leak

We first heard a few months back that Google might axe the Nexus program. What this means that probably from 2015 no new Nexus devices will be released. Instead the company will launch a new program called Android Silver. The aim behind Silver is reportedly to get a grip on fragmentation in the Android platform as well as to provide a premium hardware experience. A new report reveals some purported details about LG’s first Android Silver smartphone.

The leak comes from Twitter personality @evleaks, who has a solid track record when it comes to these things. The same account previously pegged the expected launch date of Android SIlver program in February 2015.

LG is reportedly testing a new handset that runs on Qualcomm MSM8994 processor. It is not known as yet which Snapdragon moniker the chip will carry. Little has been revealed about this smartphone though the report claims that LG’s Android Silver device could be exclusive to Sprint in the U.S. It is also said to be the successor to the Nexus 6 initiative. A recent report suggested that the Nexus 6 might be a no go next year.

There aren’t a lot of details available about the Android Silver program at this point in time. Rumor has it that manufacturers will have to adhere to strict guidelines from Google, which include little to no modification with the core software. Both LG and Motorola are said to be interested in the program, HTC and Samsung are reportedly not too stoked about it.
