NetherRealm Studio is famous for its Mortal Kombat franchise and in the past, we have seen the game released on various Nintendo platforms, like the SNES, Nintendo 64, and the Nintendo Wii, which is why we can’t say we’re surprised that there are Wii U gamers out there who might be expecting Mortal Kombat releases on their platform as well.
The bad news is that if you were looking forward to classic Mortal Kombat titles being released for the Nintendo Wii U, you’d be out of luck. This is according to Mortal Kombat’s creator, Ed Boon, who took to Twitter to confirm (or dash the hopes, depending on how you see it) that there would be no chance of the game being released for the Wii U console.
According to Boon when asked of the SNES version of Mortal Kombat 1 to 3 will see a Wii U release, Boon replied with a simple “0.0%”. Boon did not provide a reason why that might be, but in another tweet, perhaps a bad gameplay experience might be the reason why. “Also, the SNES MK1 didn’t play as well as the Genesis version. Theres ANOTHER story I’d love to tell someday. *sniff*”
Boon has expressed interest in developing for the Wii U console. In fact in an interview with the folks at Gametrailers back in 2011, he was quoted as saying, “When thinking about the Wii U and controller, I would like to think we will do something innovative and cool. We are all very excited. Whenever there is new hardware we start to think on a bigger scale. When you see that screen and controller in there, to me things start connecting in terms of what we can do with our game, enhancing the experience.”
