With BlackBerry devices, the Canadian company has to think about developing software that will play nicely with either their range of full touchscreen phones, and devices that sport a physical QWERTY keyboard, like the BlackBerry Z30 and the BlackBerry Q10 respectively. Well the good news is that if you own a QWERTY BlackBerry 10 phone and you felt that certain actions were a little too touch-centric, you’ll be pleased to learn that keyboard shortcuts are on their way.
According to reports, it seems that new keyboard shortcuts are being added to BlackBerry 10.3, at least according to those who have managed to get their hands no the latest BlackBerry 10.3 SDK. One of the shortcuts discovered essentially brings home key-like functionality to BlackBerry 10 devices with a physical keyboard.
All the user would have to do is press and hold the spacebar on the phone, in which the app they are using will then enter into an Active Frame, essentially minimizing it, and take you back to the home screen so that you can go about doing something else, like launching another app, for example. There are ways to get yourself back to the home screen right now, as BlackBerry 10 users are probably familiar with, but with the keyboard being such a prominent feature, why not take advantage of it, right?
Not to mention this also seems to be in line with BlackBerry possibly launching the Windermere, an oddly designed 1:1 BlackBerry smartphone whose keyboard is said to pack gesture controls. In any case what do you guys think? Are there any other keyboard shortcuts you’d like BlackBerry to add in the future?
