Just last week we talked about a rumor that Apple could be looking to acquire Beats and that the deal could be announced as soon as this week. It seems like the deal has been confirmed already, thanks to a video featuring Dr. Dre that made its way online, so we guess all we have to do is wait for both companies to release their official statements.
Unfortunately if you were hoping to hear an announcement this week, prepare to be disappointed because according to the folks at Re/code, they have learnt that the announcement could be postponed to next week instead.
There was no mention as to why the announcement and finalization of the deal has been delayed, but we suppose at a price of $3.2 billion, Apple and/or Beats will probably want to double check the conditions and make sure that all the T’s and I’s have been crossed and dotted properly.
There has also been talk that once the deal is finalized, it could see Beats’ founders, Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre, come aboard Apple as senior executives, and that this could be unveiled officially at WWDC 2014. What exactly their roles are in Apple remains to be seen, but it’s definitely an interesting acquisition and one we’ll be keeping our eyes on.
