Apple has since confirmed their acquisition but did not dive into any details, instead saying, “Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans.”
LuxVue Technology is a company that was founded in 2009 and has been somewhat quiet and has stayed relatively low-profile. They specialize in creating micro-LED screens that are power efficient, meaning that they will not consume as much energy as other LED screens.
Given that these are micro-LED screens we are talking about, it is not surprising that many have arrived at the conclusion that this acquisition could be related to the iWatch. There have also been rumors that suggested that LuxVue’s technology could be used to power the next wave of Google Glass wearables, but now that the company has been acquired by Apple, we’re not sure if that is still happening.
In any case there’s no telling if this acquisition will see LuxVue’s technology make its way into the iWatch, unless Apple had been testing their technology beforehand, but either way it does show the kind of technology that Apple is interested in, so we guess in the meantime we’ll just have to wait and see.
