According to Kuo, “Apple’s Touch ID module should see shipments soar 233% in 2014. We believe every new iOS device launched this year will be equipped with Touch ID, including 4.7” and 5.5” new iPhone 6, iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 2 with Retina display. Considering shipments of new products and iPhone 5S sales last longer than in 2013, we forecast unit sales of the fingerprint sensor module to grow 233% to 120M for 2014.”
He also goes on to note that Apple will be changing the module design of Touch ID and will utilize tin over previously used materials. He claims that this will be done to enhance the durability of the feature, which we guess is good news for iPhone owners. As per the earlier rumors, Apple will be sticking with TSMC and its subsidiary XinTec to help produce the fingerprint sensors.
Apple’s iPhone 6 is expected to debut in the later part of the year. A rumor earlier this month actually suggested that the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 could be announced in August, while its rumored larger 5.5-inch sibling will be announced in September. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but hopefully more details about the iPhone 6 will emerge soon.
